Still a newbie but the following observations seem relevant.

  1. An astonishingly high number of people are just TERRIBLE at merging into oncoming freeway/highway traffic.   This is far more noticeable when my vehicle is bigger and heavier and it’s a  much bigger deal for me to adjust my pace because they suck at adjusting theirs.   I now more fully understand why so many truckers hate car drivers.   :)
  2. Personally, I’m really finding some joy in the process of picking a new spot to head to, arriving, setting up the rig and all the necessaries and then having a new area to explore and site see in.
  3. Internet connectivity is a crapfest.  We are a lot spoiled by home based broadband. (emphasis on BROAD)  Of the 7 stops we’ve made to date, only 1 had really quality wifi speeds.  2 others had barely acceptable speed and the rest were just sad and embarrassing.   I see much time at McDonald’s and Starbucks in my future.
  4. And related… Cellular data limits are uncomfortably small when you’re not on wifi much and needing the occasional (or regular) hotspot.  I have 18 gigabytes of data with Verizon and this last month, our first full month on the road, I used 17.8 gigs.  In the many years I was with AT&T I’ve exceeded the data limit exactly once – when RV’ing…
  5. After having seen them both, I can’t believe Spotlight took top Oscar over Revenant this year.   Spotlight was about an appalling and serious subject but didn’t have a single really noteworthy scene and wasn’t a powerful movie.  Revenant was incredible with many amazing scenes and moments.
  6. I recently (Since starting our travels) upgraded to the iPhone 6plus, and I LOVE it.  Really, really like the bigger size, the speed, both phone and connectivity and the camera is fantastic.  Far superior to my last iPhone.   Great birthday present from my lovely wife.
  7. We’re still working on the organizing and have a ways to go for being reasonably settled.
  8. It is NOT a lie that it’s much colder and wetter up in the far north of Cali and on into Oregon.
  9. Next stop is Crescent Bay, California.
